Bithumb Exchange Uncovers $200M in Dormant Crypto Across Millions of Inactive Accounts
South Korea's Bithumb exchange has identified $201.8 million worth of cryptocurrency lying dormant across 2.6 million inactive accounts. The oldest inactive account has seen no activity in nearly 12 years, with one user's holdings appreciating by 61,000% during dormancy.
During last year's recovery campaign, 36,000 users reclaimed $50 million in forgotten assets. The single largest dormant holding was valued at $2.84 million, untouched through multiple market cycles.
This discovery highlights how early cryptocurrency adopters often held assets through extreme volatility without liquidating positions. The exchange's ongoing recovery initiative aims to reconnect users with these potentially life-changing sums.
